I'm looking to buy a Japanese cell phone because I like the designs, I'm wondering if it's possible to buy one from the United States and if it will work with Verizon. Money is not an issue.

If money is not an issue then I would suggest you switch to a provider that uses SIM cards. All use able Japanese cellphones require a SIM card.
To my knowledge, DoCoMo and most of Softbank’s cellphones work with a hypersim. I currently own a SH906i and a SH-01A.
I live in Canada and my current provider is Rogers. However, there are many providers in the states that work with the Japanese cellphones.

There is a great online community there and a Japanese cellphone section in the forum.
Oh, also check out swagbucks for digital money for everytime you search. My friend got me into it and he brought a PS3 already!

Japanese phones use SIM cards. Verizon does not use SIM cards so you can’t use a Japanese phone on Verizon.
If you have an ** UNLOCKED ** Japanese phone that can use the GSM band, you can use it on American carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T, both of which use SIM cards. Many Japanese phones nowadays have global roaming so you shouldn’t have trouble finding a model. You just have to make sure it’s unlocked so you can use it outside of the Japanese phone network it was designed for (eg. Softbank, Docomo, au, etc.)
FYI, I have an unlocked Vodafone 803T and I use T-Mobile. It’s an older model phone though so you won’t get all the cool features newer phones have to offer.
No. CDMA is not common in Japan, and thats what Verizon uses. Different frequencies too.
No. Sorry but t mobile and at&t can hav japanese phones on them.
@Great Scott
I don’t know where you’re getting your information about Japan not using CDMA phones, but it’s either outdated or misinformed. I live in Tokyo and most of my friends have CDMA phones, because we can take them back to the United States and use them (with roaming of course) when we stop there for a week or so. In fact, most Japanese phones don’t use SIM cards — they use IC cards instead.
It’s so true! Fua-kin!!! HAAHAHAHAHA

After Google released a smartphone with Android open source mobile operating system (Nexus One), What next ?
It suggests that a Google Nexus 2 is lurking in a research lab already.
destinyland writes “This article profiles a growing movement — DIY biology — that’s made possible in part by open source tools. Using programs like BioPerl and BioPython, DIY biologists write their own code (computer and genetic), designing their own biological systems and altering the genome. A protein-folding simulator, is now the most powerful distributed computing cluster in the world, and as the movement evolves, cooperatives are also springing up where hobbyists pool resources and create ‘hacker spaces’ to reduce costs and share knowledge. ‘As the shift to open source software continues, computational biology will become even more accessible, and even more powerful,’ this article argues — while intellectual property and other bureaucracies continue to hobble traditional forms of research.”

“Toyota suspended U.S. sales of some of its most popular vehicles — including the best-selling car in America, the Camry — to fix sticking gas pedals that could make the cars accelerate without warning. In another blow to the world’s No. 1 automaker, Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it would halt some production at six assembly plants beginning the week of Feb. 1 “to assess and coordinate activities.” The company said it would stop selling eight models of cars and trucks, a significant portion of its fleet. The suspension comes after a recall of the same models last week involving 2.3 million vehicles.”

What the hell are you talking about?
So true ..
Just call Verizon and they will activate ANY Verizon phone as a Prepaid phone. The only exception is if the phone has been on an account that owes money or was called in as stolen. This is concidered a "bad esn" and Verizon will not active that phone on any account. Now, once you activate a Verizon phone on a Prepaid account, it cannot be used on a post paid (contract) account. They have no issue with a phone going from Post/Contract phone to Prepaid plan phone. So as long as the esn is good, which you will find out when you call, then you are set!

I don't condone the reasoning of Japan in the killing of whales, including their increased guidelines for the amount of whales that are killed but two main reasons are that 1) There are no international guidelines to protect animals and 2) They have claimed that it is part of their culture and historically that is true but a lot of the younger generation in Japan find that whale tastes horrible (I saw that bit of news on tv.

NO. You would have to sell the car to him, pay off your loan and transfer title to him.
Oh, and the more I learn about Momoko on #QC, the more I fear; and realize that the Japanese WOULD make her like that.
